A motivating sense of achievement

12 September 2012

“Tell me and I will forget, show me and I may remember, involve me and I will remember.”

This Chinese proverb pretty much sums up the philosophy behind the internationally

acclaimed Helen O’Grady Academy.

The academy provides students from the age of three to adulthood with a unique drama-based developmental programme designed to promote ongoing confidence and encourage clear speech and creative talents in a safe and holistic environment.

Helen O’Grady Academy’s weekly programme runs for one hour and covers speech,

movement, drama and language development but, above all, lessons are great fun. There are no end-of-term examinations, because children have enough academic pressure as it is. Because the programme does not involve examinations, there can be no failures – only a motivating sense of achievement.

The academy’s focus remains firmly on the student. For this reason, the academy doesn’t put up large-scale productions because there can only ever be one Peter Pan and this can be counter-productive to the confidence growth of the other students.

Also, the packed curriculum doesn’t allow for long hours spent rehearsing for one show.

Parents will, however, be invited to attend a sample lesson towards the end of each term to see teaching methods and witness first-hand the development of their children.

Having fun remains key to the academy’s success, which sticks to its belief that a lesson

learned through fun is never forgotten.

For the convenience of parents, classes are available in Sliema, Attard, Birkirkara, Cottonera, Mellieħa, Rabat and Pembroke. Special school programmes are also available.
